Derwent Valley Cycle Way

We already have the  Heritage Way to enable walkers to traverse all 55 miles of the Derwent Valley… now there is the prospect of an off road cycle route up the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site from Derby to Matlock.

Derwent Valley Heritage Way Walk 17 035A small group of enthusiasts have got together to create a route which would obviously come through Milford and Makeney.

As a group spokesperson states:  ‘The route should be attractive to a family with children under 10 years old to visit the heritage sites and other attractions on and off  the route. For those in Milford and Makeney, this could serve as a commuter route into Derby as well as a holiday route bringing visitors to the area. The cycle paths would also be available for wheelchair users.  The group is entirely voluntary, though we are gaining support from the county, city, and district councils as well as Sustrans and other voluntary groups.’

Clearly, it’s early days for what is also an ambitious long-term project.  This website will keep you in touch with progress.
