Local businessman Rafe Hock of Milford’s Nealies is developing the old Makeney Riverside Garden Centre into a fitness and martial arts centre. Within it, Rafe and Milford’ite Chaz Spring have opened a Dojo (Japanese for ‘place of the way’) for students of martial arts, called the Kawagishi Dojo, which means, very appropriately, Waterside Dojo.
The centre will also include a gym and café once it’s been fully developed. Chaz’s Karate club runs from 7.30 pm to 8.30pm on Thursdays and Rafe’s traditional Aikido class on Monday and Wednesdays from 7.30 to 9.00pm. More classes are starting at the end of October.
