Farewell to Milford Vicar

Rev David RailtonHoly Trinity Church will be open every Sunday even though our village is currently without a vicar.  This follows the departure of Rev. David Railton, who has left the benefice of Hazelwood with Shottle, Holbrook & Milford for a new post in Durham.

‘Although we are looking forward to taking up a new role, we are sorry to be leaving these parishes,’ says David. ‘We have thoroughly enjoyed our time here, and will miss the beautiful countryside and friendly people. I have enjoyed working in Milford, particularly working with the small but dedicated congregation, and my time as a school Governor at Milford’s excellent school.’

Holy Trinity will be without a priest for a few months at least.  Until a new one can be found, the current proposals are to continue with services twice a month at Holy Trinity. There will be alternate services at the other churches in the benefice, Hazlewood and Holbrook. However, the small congregation at Holy Trinity is quite concerned that once a church begins to close its doors on a regular basis, it becomes increasingly difficult to maintain. So, the church wardens have decided that the church will be open every Sunday at the usual time of 9.00. On the days when there is not a scheduled service, they will be there to offer a quiet space, time to reflect, people to talk to, and tea and coffee.
