Garden Plot transformed

How about this for a Before & After garden plot?  Maureen Kingman takes up the story…

‘Earlier this year, a group of neighbours from Millers Way decided to do something about a piece of communal garden that had been planted up when the estate was built and neglected ever since.  It was a complete eyesore and had started to be used for parking cars… and something worse by the local cats.

Over a few weekends, and with a lot of hard work, we transformed it into the lovely joyful scene in the photograph.  The display of flowers was better than we could have hoped for, and the fruit, vegetables and herbs kept us supplied throughout the summer.

We have to give a special thankyou to Blooming Milford for the kind donation of plants and to David Moreton in particular for letting us have about a ton of compost from his garden.

We were so pleased with what we had achieved that we decided to enter the RHS East Midlands in Bloom ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood’ competition and were extremely happy to be awarded ‘Developing’ status.  We weren’t sure what they meant, but as we had leapfrogged to the third level of achievement, we were content to be mid-table, sort of more Swansea than Chelsea!’
