There are three notable ‘firsts’ that Milford can claim:
1.Milford is possibly the first place in the world to have organised allotments.
2.Milford village school is the longest-lived junior school (1820) in England to be still in its original location.
3.Milford was the first village in the UK to have gas lighting. The gas plant was developed around 1820 and was said to be the third gas works in the world. The gas not used in the mills/foundry was used to light the road(s).
