Tributes come in for Pauline Sutton, landlady of the King William

Pauline Sutton, landlady at the King William, died on August 9th after a short but severe illness.

Pauline had been a cheery and welcoming presence at the William for 13 years.

Pauline pictured as so many regulars will fondly remember her for – the beautifully made up free food platters during the Wednesday night Quiz!

Husband Dave, who was married to Pauline for 52 years, told the webmaster that ‘she had not been in the best of health for some time but it was still a shock when she passed away.’

Tributes have started to come in from locals.  Former locals, too… Alison Mallett, who used to frequent the pub, said: ‘Pauline always had a lovely warm smile and gentle nature.’

Chrissy Bell called Pauline ‘the most lovely, caring woman’ while Tony Dean said: ‘Along with Dave, Pauline made this pub into a classic.  I hope Pauline finds the best pub in the sky to run.  I will one day pop in for a pint and a chat.’

Pauline’s funeral takes place at Markeaton Crematorium on Thursday 13th September in the main chapel at 12 noon. Dave has requested donations in lieu of flowers, to the Macmillan Unit at Derby Royal.
