Once again, Blooming Milford entered Milford & Makeney into the annual East Midlands in Bloom competition run by the Royal Horticultural Society and we were judged on the 11th July. For the 3 weeks before a large number of volunteers, many of them not Blooming Milford members came, out every night to clean and tidy the judging route (Chevin Road from the Social Club to the A6 and the A6 from Chevin Road to the entrance to the riverside path in Hopping Mill Meadow), and Belper Town Council tidied around the War Memorial, in front of Holy Trinity Church and up Church Steps. Blooming Milford would like to say a huge thank you to everyone as, whatever the result of the judging, the village now looks lovely for everyone to enjoy.
The judges arrived at 10.00am and were taken into The Social Club where they were treated to tea, coffee and cake, and then the tour took in the Social Club floral display, The Triangle, the War Memorial, The Greenspace, Marts Meadow allotments, the riverside walk including the orchards and Autumn Garden, the communal garden at the bottom of Millers Way flats (where they were treated to homemade lemonade, ideal on what was a very hot day), Lavender Walk, The Old Bike Shop on the A6 and The Holly Bush.
Here are some photos of the day (taken by Dave Boardman). The results will be known halfway through September – fingers crossed!

Finally on Friday 11th July night, Landlord Dan from The King William offered a free drink and food to all those who’d helped in the clean up, a very generous gesture.
