Michael Robinson of Hopping Hill will be running The Great North Run half marathon in September raising funds for The British Heart Foundation.
Here is his story.
“11 years ago I was diagnosed with coronary heart disease. I had surgery with two stents being inserted to relieve the narrowing plus medication to deal with a third. Unfortunately a year later I had a heart attack which resulted in two more stents and even more medication.
The hospital I went to ran continuation rehab classes in the evening which I used to go to. After around four years a neighbour of mine came to the same class and instead of walking on the treadmill he ran. So I wondered why I’d never done that and gave it a go, I remember those first two minutes felt like an eternity. I started to think that if i wanted to benefit from this I can’t run just once a week so I started to run at home, just counting two minutes in my head and gradually increased from there. I ran my first Great North in 2023 and again in 2024.
This year I thought it was time to raise money for research that has helped thousands of people to survive and thrive.
