The bark chip paths all round the Greenspace were getting very damp and slippery as the previous bark chips had rotted away, so when local tree surgeon Jonathan Beard was contacted, he kindly offered to drop a 2 tonne batch of chipped bark, for free, at the bottom of Church Steps.
This was done at 8.30am on Saturday 25th January 2025 and from the picture below it can be seen this was a huge pile – nearly 6ft high!

2 tonnes of chipped bark delivered at the bottom of Church Steps
A huge community effort followed, with 15 people bagging up the chipped bark into 40 litre bags and carrying them up the three flights of stairs to The Greenspace.

Many hands make light work, and after just two hours the whole pile had been bagged up and over 350 x 40 litre bags carried up to the Greenspace. Every path in the Greenspace has been relaid with bark, and there are even some bags left, which are stored on the site for the future.

All paths on the Greenspace now relaid with chipped bark.
