The Milford Bell, which used to toll the mill workers in to their toil, is set to return to the village after being stolen.
Our historic bell, which was housed by the gates of the former mill, was stolen last year, yet another victim of metal theft. We all thought this wonderful artefact had been lost, but then came the news that it had been found in a scrap yard. The latest news on the bell is that at the last meeting of the Milford & Makeney Community Group, the committee expressed a wish that the bell resides where it will be accessible to villagers. The Social Club and the Mill site were two options mentioned. Naturally, the final decision must rest with its owners. We’ll update you.
